First day of trip home. - UPDATE

Update - we are NOT leaving today nor tomorrow - storm that passed through here is settling in north of us right along the route we have to take. Will wait until Wednesday, by then it should be fine all the way to the border. Oh well...

Good Monday morning to all. It is dark and over cast here in Mazatlan. Had pouring rain last night. I got up at 6:30 and there was no sun in sight. It is blue now over the ocean but inland behind us it is still black. And we will be leaving here in a couple of hours for the start of our long journey home.
Saw these strange birds running around the campground the other morning. There were three of them. Kind of the size of road runners.

While Tom was here we took a short trip - well not short - about 60 miles each way - to San Ignacio.
The pretty and old church there
The statue of Christ up on the hill.
The plaza with the gazebo and the court house in the background.
The court house.
Inside it is being remodeled or restored not sure which.
A mural of the countryside on the stair wall in the courthouse
A closer look at the statue.
Another day we took a trip to Malpica to our favorite bakery. Tom is surveying the goodies. Yes he bought some. So did we.
Then on to Concordia. The church and the over sized rocking chair. Concordia is known for its furniture making. I have written about Concordia and its history many times in the past.
Friday night in the Plazuela Machado. Met Angelica for good Italian dinner. Nice weather, good food, good friends. Perfect evening.
Short post but have stuff to do to get ready to leave. The weather here is being very strange. We hope we will be traveling between rain storms. Don't want to have to drive in rain. If all goes according to plan we should be spending the night in a truck stop in Los Mochis. Will try to post from there either tonight or in the morning,
As always we feel sad leaving Mazatlan but excited to be heading home. All in all it was a good year here.

  2. The birds are Rufous-bellied Chachalaca's. Nice pic.
Have a safe trip, maybe we can hookup when you get to AZ.
