Things moving along finally.

Boy oh boy! Yesterday was one of the hottest days since we’ve been here. Don’t know what the temperature was but it was evil. The poor AC in the Alfa was struggling and barely keeping it live able in here. Usually it shuts off during the evening but ran way into the night last night.
First thing in the morning we had all six of the “house” batteries in the Alfa replaced. Hopefully that will solve the not charging problem. Big bite out of our finances. An older RV turns into a money pit. Seems like it is one thing after another. But then if we took a house and shook it down the road like we do the RV it would probably be just toothpicks. Turned out the water problem again was debris clogging the pump. The campground is looking into the dirty water problem.
Then we stopped over by our new home – the flooring was getting put in.
We also picked out the color of carpeting we want in the bedrooms.
The new counter was in the laundry room – just waiting to have the sink put in. By Friday all the flooring will be in, the cupboard doors in the kitchen will be on, the new refrigerator and dryer will be in. And they – the workers – say by Monday the garage floor will be patched, smoothed and painted. So we can start having deliveries made Monday. Got the computer desks and went to furniture store and arranged deliveries. So we’ll have a place to sit and a dining room table and chairs and a functioning kitchen. Progress of sorts. While there we talked to one of the workers and he will assemble the computer desks and hutches for us. We’ll pay him of course. While waiting for deliveries I’ll be able to line cupboards and drawers etc. When we’ve been over there the AC has been working good.

The back patio cover and the front awning with shelving and a fireplace. Oh my, decisions.  Patio furniture (something simple as we are bringing two wicker rockers from home.) And some kind of guest bed. And still have to schedule Direct TV installation and some kind of Internet. But are waiting for our TVs to get here.

Where oh where is our furniture and our mail?

Today is going to be a great day! Either I got up early enough or it isn’t too hot out yet. Actually have a window open to let in some fresh air. And we really don’t have anything we “have” to do. There are a few things we hope happen though.
Yesterday was another busy day. And another hot day – car thermometer said 111 at one point when we were out running around. First thing in the morning we tried getting ahold of the moving company. Always a delightful experience. First try – no one answered phone. Then finally got ahold of same outstanding employee we talked to on Friday. Push 2 – “Lo?”  me, “I am trying to schedule a delivery of my furniture. I talked to you on Friday.” “Um. Oh yeah. Dispatch will call you.” “When will they call me.” “In a few minutes.” “That’s what you said on Friday. This is Monday.” “I got your information they’ll call you.” Hang up.  So we did a few things around here then – no return call – so we called back. This time pushing 3 for dispatch. Another enthused employee answered phone.  Me “I’m trying to find out when I can get my furniture delivered. My job ####.” “Oh yah, to Nevada right?” “Right. Can you tell me what is going on?” “It’s scheduled for delivery.” Me “Oh. To where? We never gave you an address where to deliver it.” “Um we’ll call you back in a few minutes.” “No, no wait – we have to give you the right phone number to call us back on (correcting my mistake of Friday when I gave them the new house phone) He read back the new number. “ No not that one please use this one – gave him cell phone. “Okay, what about the 812-988**** number?” “NO – we don’t live there any more.” “Oh okay. Someone will call you right back.” Click. Unprintable words going through mind. Waited – and got a call back. Bill’s turn to talk to them. A woman we’d talked to before. She would send us a form we had to fill out and return to her before we could schedule delivery. “Um, where are you going to send it?” “I’ll email it to you at – she gave Bill’s email address. “No, wait – that email isn’t working send it to – gave her my email address.” “Okay I’ll do it right now. Fill it out and send it back.”
Got it, of course it went to spam – but we were watching for it. Hit reply and filled it out. A few minutes later we called her to make sure she had it. All okay. “I have it. Someone will call you when the delivery is ready.” “When will that be?” “We have to find a truck that will do it. Someone will call and let you know.” End of conversation. Do we know when we’ll get our furniture? No…according to their form it could take up to 21 days. WE ARE NEVER MOVING AGAIN.
But then we don’t actually have a place to put the furniture if it does show up this week. No work got done on the house over the weekend. So we went to talk to the park manager. She got on the phone with the contractor. Finally got a “for sure” promise of everything inside will be done by Thursday night. And we got to pick out our new carpet. Today they are supposed to be putting down the wood flooring in the living, dining, kitchen, and hall areas. And because all of this is taking longer than anticipated – we will not have to start paying park rent until next month.
After leaving there we went to Office Max and bought our computer desks and hutches – they were on sale for almost half price. They will be delivered next Tuesday. But…now we have to find someone to assemble them. To get them assembled by Office Max would cost an extra 300 dollars! We know we can put them together but we don’t want too.
Also went to General Delivery to see if we had any mail. We did – notices from the USPS that our mail address had been changed to General Delivery. Okay. Now we’re going to change it again. Meanwhile any mail that was sent within the last month is still in the great unknown.
Extended our stay at the RV park until the 13th. Had to pay full price for the space now though. But still cheaper than anywhere else here. Hopefully by then we can pull up to the house, unload it and put it in storage. Today we’re waiting for the service guy again. Need new batteries – ouch to the pocketbook. And again we can’t get water without the pump working. The old boy – Alfa – is starting to show his age. I wonder if RVs have a comparable life like dog years?
Maybe we’ll go to the Organization Store – it’s in a real neat new shopping center. Other than that no plans.

I really should start cooking again - someday

A quiet day today. As usual we went out to breakfast – It is just too hot to cook here in the RV and I am too lazy. After breakfast we stopped at a Lowes and Bill bought some things he will need when we move into the house. Then we stopped by the house and unloaded the all the stuff from the back of the Jeep. And the stuff we got at Lowes. Put it in one of the bathrooms as they don’t have any work to be done in them. Of course, it being the weekend no one was working. So we still don’t know when we can start scheduling deliveries. Hopefully by the end of the week. Our time here at the 1000 Trails campground is up on Aug 6 which is Thursday. With any luck they’ll let us stay a few more days. Otherwise we’ll have to go to another RV park until we can move in.
We left Indiana 22 days ago – so we’ve actually got a lot done in a short time. I guess I shouldn’t be frustrated that things aren’t moving faster.
We were talking to the manager of the Park where we’re moving and she was telling us to watch out for the – get this – raccoons! NO – not raccoons. And coyotes and rabbits. In Las Vegas? Yep we will be right up against the protected wet lands and the mountains. So guess we’ll prepare for wildlife visitors.
Watched the NASCAR race today. Bad day for Kyle – he was leading the race and ran out of gas about ½ a mile from finish line. Ended up finishing 21st so he is still not high enough in points to make the chase, but is now only 13 points away. I really dislike fuel mileage races. About six or seven cars ran out right at the end.
Well the videos on the laptop have gone to a green screen again. As soon as we are moved in and I have my PC set up this is going to Best Buy to get fixed once and for all. No way it’s a virus causing it. There has to be something wrong with the driver.

The clouds and cool weather from yesterday has gone. Bright blue sky, puffy clouds and 100+ temperatures today.

Old Farts on the Loose. Look out Las Vegas

Another gray and cloudy day here in Vegas, not supposed to get quite so hot here today either. Yesterday afternoon the wind picked up, the sky got dark and a gnarly storm moved through part of the town. We were out on our way to the store and were watching the lightening south of us. You can see where it is raining – over Henderson. Just missed a lightning bolt that really sizzled.
looks like the Midwest not Vegas
Looking out the window towards Henderson now it looks like it might be raining there again. I know we are getting “flash flood” alerts on our phones.
We were told – but are skeptical – that the house should be ready by Monday. The inside anyway. Cupboards, floors and appliances. They will still need to put the patio cover up and the awning in the front. That would be good, we could start scheduling deliveries then.
I just love moving and everything involved in it. I called the movers yesterday afternoon to see when we could schedule delivery…Got the company, pressed “2” for delivery. “Hello” “Um is this where I schedule a delivery?” “What’s your job number?”  “It’s ######.”  “Okay we got your payment the deliveries scheduled. I’ll have them call you.”
What? How can they schedule a delivery when they don’t have an address? Is running through my mind. “They’ll call you right back – give me your phone number.” And here is where I made a mistake. We’d just got our home phone with a new number – and idiot me – that is the number I gave him. “They’ll call you.” Hang up. Bill looked at me – what? “Why’d you give him that number? Now we have to stay near that phone.” He was right – I should have given him the cell phone – just drew a blank. So I called them back. No answer. Waited to see if we got a call back. Nope so I called them again. Went to voice mail. We’re closed until Monday morning…Well sh**! Sure hope the stuff isn’t on a truck wandering around who knows where.
Now to the new phone. Neither Bill nor I hear real well on a cell phone so we wanted a “real phone’ Picked one up yesterday and got our LV number. It is a wireless phone so we can use it in the RV until we move into the house. Really easy to hear over. Has a speaker and an answering machine feature.
Came with lots of instructions on how to set it up. Got date, time and put in friends numbers without problem. But when it came to setting up the answering machine part of it – could not get that. I tried, Bill tired, we both tried together, one reading directions, one pushing phone buttons.
We finally got a message recorded, but it surprised us so Bill fumbled the number so we couldn’t use it. Okay so now we know how to do it, let’s rerecord it. Nope couldn’t get back into the program. CRAP. Kept fooling with it and managed to do another recording this time of me. I got the number out okay but was laughing so hard I forgot to push “5” to end recording.  Well finally we went back to Verizon and had them program the answering machine. And put the message in. So now we have a very deep voiced man give our message. Of course he was holding the phone to put the message in. When it was done we thanked them and went home. Where I discovered we didn’t have the phone, it was still at the store. Back we went to pick it up. Guess they probably had a good laugh about us “old farts.”
So this morning I’m watching the truck race then going over to the house to see what is done. Race is over and Kyle Busch WON – he is on a roll. While I was watching the race the Alfa was getting washed. Really needed it.
We went out to lunch with our son and daughter-in-law – the ones who do the signalongs. Very nice afternoon.
Would you believe that it is only 88 degrees in Las Vegas at 3 o’clock in the afternoon. And sprinkling. And humid!

Went over to the house and nothing has been done since last time we saw it. So definitely will not be done by Monday. Oh well – what’s another day or two.
