Happy Mother's Day

Well the day got away from me. We braved the very cold but sunny weather to go into town to breakfast. Then to WalMart and home.
Went outside with the camera and got some neat pics that I'll share tomorrow. I haven't even downloaded them on to the computer yet.
Back inside and after much searching I found and downloaded a users manual for the Surface - but haven't even looked at it yet. 115 pages so I hope it is informative and simple.
Was watching a soccer game when we got company. Then it was time to fix dinner.......
I even learned how to send a picture from a text message on our phone to my computer. Maybe someday I'll make it into the 21st century yet. Picture our son sent me of his truck - from text message to computer to blog YAH!
Hopefully tomorrow I'll get a few things done.

Working on the Surface

Going to try to do this on the new toy. Not too used to the keyboard so there might be some really strange words that I don’t catch.
But first I have to tell about something that happened yesterday. We went to the outlet mall near us to go to the “As seen on TV store.” We picked up a couple of things – Bill wanted one of those hoses that expands with water and shrinks back up to nothing after using it. And I wanted one of the contraptions that you can put saran/plastic wrap in and use it without it getting all messed up. Also a pan. As I was heading towards the counter I heard the clerk talking on the phone. I guess he didn’t realize I could hear him. He said to whoever he was talking to, “I’ve got to hang up. Someone is heading this way with a bunch of crap.” Hummm is that what he thinks of what he is selling? Thought it was kind of funny.
Rained off and on most of yesterday and more coming later today along with very cold weather. Supposed to get down into the high 30s at night. Then by Wednesday up to the mid 80s.
Little by little I’m beginning to figure out how to do some things on this. And it continues to surprise me with what it adds to the screen. Some where it found a bunch of pictures I’ve taken. I guess from the web and the blog. No rhyme or reason to them that I can find. I’ve managed to get Microsoft Office 2013 working – on a trial basis. Did you know you can’t buy the disks any more – you can only lease it by the year? The first year costs $99. After that I’m not sure. Will have to check it out. Right now I hope to be able to load my 2003 copy of Office into this so I can continue to use what I’m used to. Also Access doesn’t come as part of the regular program, it is extra and I use it all the time. Especially when we are traveling. I’m so confused…..I saved this and don’t know where it went. This is going to be a long and painful learning curve.
Watched the Nationwide Race last night. Good race. Kyle had the pole, led the most laps and won the race. There have been nine Nationwide races this season – he has entered seven of them and won five. His engine blew up in one and I think he crashed in one. Tonight he starts 3rd and his brother is on the pole. GO Busch Brothers.
Well I got it here and pasted. Wonder if I'll ever find the original word document again?
Going to try to post this now. Hope I don’t loose it into the Cloud.

PS -
Don’t know what I’ve done but I think I’ve synced my PC with the tablet. That will kind of interesting when I really understand what I’m truly doing. Will have to read much more about how this works.

Another new toy

Lots of rain today. Went into town again this morning and came home with a tablet type thing. Microsofts "Surface"   Not really sure about it. No instructions at all unless you go online. And some how I managed to take a terrible picture of myself - and it ended up on the desktop - scared myself to death when I turned it back on! EGAD! Need to figure out how to delete it.
Also got a new monitor for my PC as it was going off more than it stayed on. Maybe I should just stay away from all electronic things.
Watching the NASCAR Nationwide qualifying sitting on the living room floor and playing with this thing. Have a feeling we'll be going over our allotted GBs with Verizon this month. I really used them up when I downloaded the pictures from the camera to my PC using the WiFi. Oops Won't be doing that again. It also burns the time on the camera's battery too.
This has Windows 8 on it - not sure about that either. Guess I'm not keeping up with the times. I use the computers more for doing things with programs and not so much on the Internet. 8 seems to be very much Internet involved.
Love living here in the country - went into the post office to get stamps and the lady in front of me was having to show documentation to renew her post office box. All the people who live within the small town's limits don't get delivered mail - they have to have PO boxes. Any way she asked the clerk why she had to show so much ID and if she would have to do that every year, The clerks answer was, "No. This was supposed to be done 10 years ago but we're just getting around to it." Both me and the guy behind me burst into laughter. So typical of this area.

Quiet Country Life

Today was a busy but uneventful day - except for the thunder and lightening this afternoon.
We spent most of the day in Columbus running around doing errands.
Took my laptop into the Geek Squad to see if the broken keys could be fixed. One could one couldn't. Seems like some how - hummmm - a teeny tiny bead got under the tab key and was keeping it from working. Wonder how that could have happened? So that was an easy fix. The left mouse key was another story - final decision - keep using an external mouse - not worth it to send the laptop out to fix the key.
Then to drop off bags of really nice clothing that neither Bill nor I have worn in about 7 years. Finally convinced ourselves we were never going to wear dress suits and dresses again. All very good work outfits. Besides mine would never fit again either.....
And to the home improvement store to start ordering the stuff needed to fix the two bathrooms.
Then to free library to drop off a bunch of books. So like I said uneventful but kind of productive.
I've been fighting an earache and sore throat for a few days so when we got home I settled down to read for a while. When the thunder woke me up the better part of the afternoon was gone. I'm reading a Michael Connelly book The Black Box - I really like his series. Also got a new John Sanford "Prey" book while out. I've kind of stalled out on Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance for a while.
I did take a couple of pictures with the new camera. Of our lunch food. Believe it or not there is a "food" setting on it! Haven't looked at them though.
Now my PC is giving me problems. The monitor just keeps going black - like it turns off. When I run my hand over it's on button it comes back on for a while. This is not my year for electronics.
Quiet country life.
