2nd Post Today - We are on the road!

Heavy, heavy rain in the area last night caused a lot of damage and moved our departure up one day. This is an area in the campground next to us. Yesterday it was a dry ditch. Today it is four feet deep, three feet wide and moving with force. Time to get out of here. It was a chore getting the levelers up out of the dirt and cleaned off so they could retract. 

Our plans to begin with this morning were to go into Columbus for breakfast and a few groceries. Then come home and slowly get the RV ready to leave Monday morning. Our plans changed. Took this driving into town. The dark area between the trees and above the highway are the storm clouds moving away from us. It was just drizzling when we were going to town.  

 Parked in "our spot" outside our favorite restaurant. Over the last eight years we've become good friends with several of the people who work here. Really good friends. Hard to say GoodBye. 

 After eating and shopping we headed home. While eating breakfast we got to wondering why we were waiting until tomorrow to leave. The rain was beyond us and the weather clear west of us. Decided - we left. Pulled out of the RV park at 11:15 and got to our first stop in Illinois at 3:30. But to get there we passed a lot of damage. These pictures are of the golf course in Nashville, IN. Nobody out there today. Also lots of trees down and power out. It was quite a storm. 

 As long as we lived here I never saw water in this creek. We talked to the Estate Sale guy and he said trees were down on road to house and one road was too flooded to go through. Lovely. 

As we continued west on the I-70 the weather cleared up and got warmer. Just going into Illinois. 

We moved to Indiana in July of 2007 - so we were there eight years. Six of which were great. The last two with Bill's allergies not so good. But we'll miss the greenery - but not the weather it takes to keep it green.  Look at this blue sky with puffy white clouds - no rain in sight. 

One more day

It’s 6:30 in the a.m. Been up since around four when a severe storm moved through here. Both our phones went off with alerts – which we really didn’t need as the heavy rain, lightning and thunder already had us up. I remember when we first moved here from the southwest we would stand outside on our deck marveling about the rain, thunder and lightning. We would stay out there the whole storm, just enjoying it. Now we curse it. Flood warning in effect for this whole area. It is just sprinkling now and I think we’re clear until later in the day. Maybe some more rain overnight but looks like Monday morning will be clear and we’ll be on the road early. In the little over two months that we’ve been home there has only been about eight days when it hasn’t rained. Just a little too much. The poor little town of Nashville is having a horrible summer. Its only industry is tourism and with all the rain no one is coming here. And if they do come, they just stay inside as the rain is continual. 

My watch that I’ve had for over 20 years has finally quit working. We put a new battery in it last week but guess it was more terminal than that. So will have to get a new one in town today. Hopefully when we get to Vegas I can get this one fixed, I really like it. And it was a gift from Bill those many long years ago. Funny but it kind of bothered me that it picked now to quit working. Lots of things in our lives coming to an end right now.

Watched the NASCAR race last evening. YAH – Kyle won again. Seven races since he came back from his injuries and he’s won two of them. It was actually a pretty good race. Lots of passing and lead changes. The changes made to the cars seem to be working good. And what a neat trophy – a full sized colorful juke box.

We’ll go into town this morning for breakfast and to say Goodbye to all our friends in Columbus. Do some last minute grocery shopping so we won’t have to do that while on the road and then come home and get the Alfa ready to go early tomorrow morning. Hopefully before the rain starts in again. 

11:00 we will  be on the road in 15 minutes. Hope to make it to Mulberry Grove, IL  by late afternoon.  Weather clear. 

More humid weather.

The sun is actually out again today. But the clouds are moving in again. Supposed to have heavy storms tonight. Doesn't it ever end? Of course the humidity is horrid. Remember the crack in the refrigerator door that we could stick a quarter in when we were out west. No sign of it now. Even the sheets on the bed feel damp. 

We went into town this morning to pick up my laptop. Hopefully it is fixed with regards to the video problem. But I'm afraid to try one for fear I'll pick up another virus. The Best Buy is in a strip mall that has a little creek running along the road side of it. There are always geese around it. Lots and lots of geese. So many no one would want to walk along the sidewalks here. Lots of goose sh.. there. 

After finishing our errands we went to visit a friend who lives just north of Nashville - our little town. The last time we'll be going by this beautiful sculpture.

Watched the Xfinity NASCAR race last night. At least there weren't any horrible wrecks. Tonight is the Cup race so that will keep me amused for a while. Right now we are inside with he windows close and the AC running, at least that makes Bill feel better. He is watching "How the West Was Won." Forgot how many stars were in it - and how long it is.

one thing after another

Well this is fun. My laptop is at Best Buy getting a problem fixed and I'm trying to do this on the tablet.
Of course it is raining again.
At this rate we will need a tractor to pull us out of the campground.
Discovered this morning that Bills new ATM card was magic. He used it and the money came out of my checking account! So had to go to bank and get that fixed. All OK now.
Then to PO to have our mail forwarded. Now we will just have to find the PO in Vegas where it is going to.
Another bad wreck at last nights truck race. Only the cab of the truck left in one piece. That is three really bad wrecks this year. One in each series.
Was talking to a local yesterday about the rain. He told me "I just saw a catfish with a lifevest swimming down the highway." Yep!
Still looks like weather will be okay for traveling west most of next week. Sure hope so, but got new windshield wipers for Alfa. 12 years of use - not too bad.
Well there goes the TV too many clouds and rain out there.
